You have started to realise the immense health, comfort and lifestyle benefits from upgrading to an electric Adjustable Bed, but are confused by the Sizes, especially as they are often Split ?? (Individual Control for Each side of the Bed)
Here is a lowdown on the Australian Sizes with a brief Pros and Cons;
Napp Mattresses Original & Prestige Plush/Med/Firm are 27cm deep our A H Beard Ultimate Care Health Rest Mattresses are 20cm deep.
Long Single
Overall 91.5 x 203cm
A long single is longer than a standard single (typically 188cm), but still space saving. Ideal for taller adults. Offering full body support without your feet hanging off the edge. It provides enough space for one adult to sleep comfortably. (2x long singles make up our Split King - more below)
King Single / Long Wide Single
Overall 107 x 203cm
A King single provides extra length as well as extra width for adult comfort, making it far better for larger adults while still being compact enough where the space may not allow for a Double. (2x King Singles make up our Cali King- more below)
Double
Overall 137 x 188cm
A Double size is a traditional model - it is shorter and narrower than a Queen Size. It has the same length as a standard single. This tends to be ideal for solo adults who like extra room or for couples in a compact space - balancing affordability with functionality. Due to the one piece design only the Renew/Enliven/Invigorate adjustable beds come in a Double Size.
Cons - Generally too small for adults who are over 6 ft (180cm ) tall.
Queen
Overall 153 x 203cm
Queen size is spacious enough for two, generous for one. Room friendly fits in to most bedrooms allowing room for movement and furniture. The Renew/Enliven/Invigorate & Enrich adjustable beds are all available in Queen Size.
Cons Not available in our Hi/Low (Uplift) of Lumbar Press (Enrich) models
Std King - 1 Piece Mattress
Overall 183 x 203cm
In a King Size adjustable bed with a one piece mattresses the bases are two pieces allowing for the weight of the motor per side & to allow for the practicality of moving the bed around without too much strain. In this case you still have one remote but the bases are 'synchronized' to ensure they mobilise together.
Super King - 1 Piece Mattress
Overall 203 x 203cm
Designed for couples who like their own space! Plenty of room to move around, like the std king this model would have two piece base with a very large super king mattress & the motors would synchronise together.
Cons - Too large for a lot of older homes, the one piece means that both people would need to agree on the articulated movements of the bed. Bedding can be a challenge
Split Australian King
183 x 203cm (2x 91.5 x 203 Long Singles)
This is the most popular size for Split size Adjustable Beds. In simple terms, it is 2 x Long Singles, kept together by attaching the base (other brands), or for electric Adjustables like ours, simply the weight of the bases (they are pretty heavy with the Motors and method of Articulation).
Pros: Good space for each partner and if you needed to, can be separated into two Long Single Beds
Cons: Perhaps a little big for a smaller sized Master Bedroom? However considering this is equivalent to a single in width we personally wouldn't go any smaller for a Split bed. From experience Split Queens simply are not big enough for two adults 153cm wide means each side would be only 76 cm wide per side, that's smaller than a camp stretcher!
Linen: You will need Long Single Mattress Protectors and Fitted Sheets. The rest of your linen (flat sheets, doona/quilt, covers etc.) should be Super King. Napp does offer a Bambi Split Sheet Combo - 2 x Long Single fitted sheets with an extra wide flat sheet + pillowcases. We also sell a range of Long Single Mattress Protectors, the best way to purchase your linen with no hassle and good value is our 'Linen Bundle'.
Split Cali King Plus
Overall 214 cm x 203 cm - (2x 107cm x 203cm King Singles)
Note the 'Plus' or sometimes just the + symbol is used. This is a BIG bed, bigger than a normal Californian King.
Definitely increasing in popularity and will fit into decent sized Master Bedrooms. It is essentially 2 x King Singles. As big as it is, if you were looking for a single sized bed for yourself you would almost certainly choose a King Single, so why not one each for you and your partner if you have the space?
Pros: Plenty of room if you are a bigger person or simply like to stretch out. There is much more linen available in King Single than there is in Long Single.
Cons: You do need a big Bedroom.
Bed Linen: You will need King Single Mattress Protectors and Fitted Sheets. The rest of your linen (flat sheets, doona/quilt, covers etc.) should be Californian King.
